Why is drinking lots of water so important?
We always recommend drinking plenty of water after your massage and for the rest of the day. There are multiple reasons for this. This helps with dehydration, reduces fatigue, and helps eliminate toxins from your body.
As your therapist works and manipulates your muscles, it encourages your tissues to expel water. Our warm and cosy beauty rooms can add to making you feel dehydration. Due to this, we always recommend having water straight after your massage, then throughout the day.
During a massage, built-up toxins are released as your therapist works on your muscles. This is a good thing, but the body then needs to eliminate these toxins from your body. Your internal systems do an excellent job of eliminating toxins from your body, water helps accelerate this process and helps detox your system of any toxins.
Increasing your water intake if you are feeling a soreness lingering in your muscles during the days after your massage can really help improve any pain or soreness you are feeling.
Why do we recommend relaxing after your massage?
We always recommend relaxing for a while after your massage, or if your schedule allows - to take it easy for the rest of the day. The main reason for this is to enhance and continue the relaxed sensation you feel post-massage. This allows you to feel more relaxed and to de-stress. Giving yourself this extended time to unwind and settle, allows your mind to also relax and become more balanced.
Instead of rushing back to your duties of normal life straight after your massage, go for a little walk, sit somewhere comfortable, have a little nap, listen to soothing music, read a book or mediate. This will add to the experience and allow you some much-needed time to calm your body, mind and soul.
Also, the less you do with your time after your massage, the more energy you leave your internal systems to start the detoxing process within your body.
Why it is best to avoid drinking alcohol for 12 hours after your massage?
This is just advisory, nothing bad will happen if you do drink alcohol within 12 hours after your massage. However, if you can avoid having any beverages containing alcohol, this will make you feel ever better following your treatment. As we mentioned early in the blog, massages can make you feel dehydrated, alcohol also has dehydrating properties. Drinking alcohol after your treatment could result in feeling more dehydrated and even drained. It would not be beneficial when your body is trying to eliminate the toxins that are in the process of being detoxed.
Avoid having any caffeine for 12 hours after your treatment.
As much as it might seem like a great idea to snuggle up with a warm cup of coffer after your massage, we would advise holding off having any caffeine for 12 hours. Just like alcohol, caffeine also has dehydrating properties. Having any beverages containing caffeine or alcohol mean you won't be able to maximize the detoxification and rehydration process going on within your body. Our best advice is stick to water and drink plenty of it!
Why you shouldn't eat a large meal after a massage?
After your massage, it is possible you will feel hungry, this can be due to the increased blood circulation in your body. This can maximize and boost body systems function, one of these systems being our digestive system.
During the detoxifying stage following your treatment, your bodies resources with be working hard to clear your system of toxins. By eating a large meal, your body will have to also work on processing and breaking down the food you have eaten. To get the most out of your treatment, eat light and healthy food following your treatment. This way, you won't lose that wonderful feeling after your massage or feel bloated and sluggish.
Don't do any strenuous activities or exercises.
This is just advisory, and light exercise can be fine after a massage. However, we recommend allowing yourself and your body 30-60mins before doing any type of exercise.
Following your treatment, your muscles will be relaxed, softer and looser. Doing any strenuous activities when your muscles are in this state could result in you injuring yourself or pulling a muscle.
If you are unable to have a break from your fitness plan, we would strongly advise having your massage after your exercise session rather than before. This way you can enjoy your working and get the most out of your massage.
Why you shouldn't shower after a massage?
The oils we use for our massage treatment are excellent for your skin! We always advise not to shower after your massage if possible. This allows the oil we have used to fully absorb into your skin. This is a right treat for the skin and will leave it feeling soft and hydrated. Some of the massages we offer, like our aromatherapy and anti-cellulite, uses oil with essential oils and extract from ingredients that having benefits when absorbed into the skin and the blood stream. These extracts can help with relaxation, detoxing and making you feeling revived. When it does come to showering, we advised having a cold shower if you are suffering for a muscle injury. It is best to stay away from having a hot shower if you have an injury, as this can increase inflammation. Warm showers can be a great way to help relax your muscles.
