Common cause of wrinkles

Aging - As we mature our skin cells divide slowly this causes the outer layer of the skin to thin and form wrinkles. Once you reach your 30’s you lose around 1% of collagen each year.

Facial muscle contractions - You always use your facial muscles we do this daily to smile, frown or squint. Over time, these muscles will cause frown line between your eyebrows and crow’s feet and also at the corners of your eyes. This happens as the fat and bone mass start to weakened which effects the gravity of the skin.

Sun damage - Exposing your skin to the suns UV will cause your skin to age prematurely. The sun can damage your skins collagen - this is what provides the skin its elasticity and flexibility.

Smoking - Products that contain tobacco cause your body to slow down its collagen production this will slowly overtime cause your collagen to decrease and cause more wrinkles.

Here are some home remedies to help prevent wrinkles:

Banana mask - Bananas contain natural oils and vitamins that boost skin health, the presence of potassium within the fruit acts as a moisturizing agent and provides proper hydration to skin cells.

Aloe Vera - helps keep the skin hydrated and increases collagen due to being an antioxidant. Aloe Vera also protects the skin against sunlight and prevents sunburns because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

Coconut Oil - will help to fade wrinkles and lines as coconut oil is moisturizing and hydrating for the skin. It also helps restores the skin’s elasticity.

Egg whites - tightens the skin and reduces wrinkle depth. They also produce collagen to help increase elasticity, allowing the skin to stretch.

Vitamin C - has a potent amount of antioxidants and serves as a protection against sun damage due to having anti-inflammatory properties. (Can be found it lots of fruits and vegetables).

At home skin care routine

If you want to reduce wrinkles and fine lines or prevent them, it is important to look after your skin at home. We recommend using a good quality cleanser, exfoliator, moisturiser, and SPF for healthier and hydrated skin. SPF is key for protecting your skin from the sun’s rays, even in the winter months.

Using a cleanser will removing oil build up, toxins, bacteria and dirt from the skin. This will make your skin look and feel smoother and softer. After cleansing, it is great to exfoliation your skin. This is to remove dead skin cells and promote new healthy cells. This helps to make the surface of your skin smoother and healthier. Exfoliating will help reduces signs of ageing, pigmentation, and breakouts. It also allowing creams and lotion to absorb better, improving the skins hydration levels.

Using a daily moisturiser after cleansing and /or exfoliating will keep the skin hydrated and the skin’s barrier healthy. Apply a SPF daily will help protect your skin from UV rays coming from the sun. Sun damage is on of the most common causes for wrinkles, so this is an important part of your skincare routine. (I would always recommendation reapplying every 2 hours if you are in direct sunlight).

A cleanser, exfoliator, moisturiser, and SPF are the main products we would always advise you to use regularly on your skin. You can also use targeted serums and oils to help reduce and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. You can get anti-ageing serums, eye creams, lips creams, facial oils, day creams, and night creams. If you pick a good quality, recommended brand and use the product as directed - you can see some amazing results!
