What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a skin exfoliation treatment that uses an medical blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It’s also known as; microplaning or blading. Dermaplaning makes your skin’s surface smooth, more youthful, and radiant. It’s also used to remove the short, soft vellus hairs on your face, know as peach fuzz.
How does dermaplaning work?
The skin's outermost layers and vellus hairs are removed with a medical-grade blade by a trained professional who will use skin stretching methods to carry out the treatment safely.
How often should I get dermaplaning?
For maintenance and effective skin exfoliation, dermaplaning can be done every three to four weeks. It may be done more frequently to treat acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, as well as to rejuvenate the skin. The skin can be perfectly prepared for a chemical peel via dermaplaning.
Will my hair grow back thicker?
No. On every part of the body, there are hair follicles. There are stem cells, blood vessels, sebaceous glands, and of course, hair within the follicles. The dermis, the second layer of skin, contains the follicle. This is the hair's living portion. The hair on the outside, the hair that is visible, is actually dead. The way this hair grows back has nothing to do with shaving, waxing, or tweezing.
Can I do my own dermaplaning treatment?
No, only a trained professional should safely perform the treatment - treating yourself may cause injury and/or infection.
How long will the dermaplaning treatment last?
3 - 4 weeks, however results can vary with each person due to different hair types and hair growth.
Is Dermaplaning painful?
While dermaplaning involves a surgical scalpel, it is not a painful treatment. The scalpel gently scrapes off the top layer of dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, resulting in no swelling or pain.
Is Dermaplaning Safe?
Dermaplaning is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed and trained therapist. However, like any procedure, some risks include minor cuts or nicks to the skin, redness, and irritation.
What are the side effects of Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a low-risk procedure. Side effects may include slight redness in your face in the hours after getting the treatment.
